What is refresh rate?
Refresh rate is the number of times a monitor refreshes its image each second. It is measured in hertz (Hz): a 60 Hz monitor refreshes up to 60 times per second, while a 144 Hz monitor can refresh up to 144 times per second.

Why does refresh rate matter when buying or comparing?

Check the following details before comparing monitors:
- Maximum refresh rate: Confirm the stated upper limit and whether it is a native or overclocked mode.
- Resolution at that rate: The maximum Hz may apply only at a particular resolution.
- Connection requirements: Check which input and output ports support the desired mode and what cable or source requirements are listed.
- Variable refresh rate: Look for the supported technology and its stated operating range, if provided.
- Response and latency specifications: Review these separately rather than treating them as part of the refresh-rate figure.
- Your source hardware: Confirm that your computer, graphics hardware, console, and games can produce the required frame rate.
- Other display priorities: Compare resolution, panel features, ergonomics, brightness, contrast, and color specifications for your intended use.
If a product page lists only a maximum refresh rate, the supported resolution, port-specific limits, variable-refresh range, and real-world motion behavior may remain unknown.
